Albany

Albany has several ramps in different locations that will allow you to get out in a variety of conditions and wind directions. If conditions permit a trip out to Frenchman Bay is highly recommended.

Albany Marina

An excellent ramp right in front of town protected from all wind directions. You can pull your boat up on the beach in front of the Maritime Centre Boatshed to get yourself sorted out before heading out into the harbour or into the sound. Toilets are adjacent at the Boatshed, cafe and restaurant are a short distance away towards the Entertainment Centre

Princess Royal Yacht Club

A basic public ramp next to the yacht club. Note that the channel to the ramp runs north-south, see the image above. From the ramp you should follow the shoreline until you get to the yacht club pens before heading out into the harbour. A nice expedition is to head out to the Cheynes II wreck, cruise past Camp Quaranup, before heading into the beach in the Albany Marina for coffee or lunch.

Unfortunately there is no beach to pull your boat up on as the shoreline is a rocky sea wall, also no toilets unless the yacht club facilities are unlocked. Nearest shops and fuel is at the Little Grove general store on Frenchman Bay Road. Camp nearby at the Panorama Caravan Park a bit further down Frencheman Bay Road, this is my favourite camping spot in Albany. Camping is also available nearby at the Rifle Club if they are not conducting a shoot.

Emu Point Boat Harbour

A large ramp giving you access to Oyster Harbour and out to the Sound through the channel, but do take note of the tidal flow through the channel if you plan to do this and don't have a motor. Adjacent to the ramp is a superb beach launching area for smaller craft. Drive onto the hard sand, launch your boat and park next to the grass.

Cafe adjacent to the ramp, along with a chandlery at Watercraft Marine. Toilets in the park just to the south of the ramp.

Bridge Park Boat Ramp

A basic ramp at the rowing club that gets you into the Kalgan River just upstream of the low bridge. Toilets are at the back of the car park. Sailing here would be limited but could be fun. An excellent spot to launch a St Ayles Skiff or kayak for exploring up the river.
