Moore river is great for a row or sail as long as the bar has not recently broken through as it can then get a bit shallow.

There is an excellent launch ramp and you can sail and row in the area down to the beach but no motors.

If you go up stream it is fairly tight for a bit and then it opens up into a large area before tightening up past the famous sand hills, there is then a large open area where you could have a small race course if you wanted to.

You are allowed to motor everywhere going up stream from the ramp and are only supposed to do 5 knots but the bogans often abuse that and even water ski which is totally banned.

From the above mentioned open area the river narrows but is totally navigable for small boats right up to a new micro brewery built on the bank of the river at Caraban. Only guessing but I would think it would be at least 5 kms.

Sailing is a bit tricky because the wind is bent all over the place by the topography around the river. When I sailed Crazybird up there I used to motor up stream in an easterly and then bumble down river under sail. You do the reverse if it is from the West.

There is lots of accommodation in holiday houses and the Club/ Tavern is great for a beer and basic meals.

All in all great for an OGA jaunt but you need to check the status of the river. It will be OK for most of the time but if there has been a recent break through it won’t work,
