We are invited to the launch event for the Restoration Project of Mafalda on Tuesday 21 November 5.30pm at Claremont Yacht Club.

She was built by the Gourley Bros on the banks of the Swan in East Freo in 1926 for the Merendino family, Italian fishermen who arrived in Fremantle in 1905.

After working as a fishing boat for more than 50 years she was subsequently used as a recreational vessel.

She was at the point of being dismantled and disposed of until a small group got together to find ways to bring her back up to optimal condition. We have now set up a not for profit to manage the process of getting her back in the water and then making her available for community use on a subscription model. She is in reasonable condition but needs work on the centre case and rudder mainly,

Mafalda actually won an Old Gaffers Race more than 2 decades ago.

It would be wonderful to have some of you at the launch. Please see the linked invitation.

Let us know if any of you can make it – it would be a pleasure to have you there.

Best Regards
Jo Buontempo
Mafalda Inc Board Secretary.
